COMMUNITY & SUPPORT
What is Kama Flight?
Kama Flight is an innovative practice that combines elements of yoga, dance, and Thai massage movements to deepen connections between partners. It focuses on trust, communication, and the joy of shared physical activity to enhance relational and personal wellness.
Who is Kama Flight for?
Anyone looking to deepen their connection—whether with a friend, partner, or themselves. No prior experience in yoga or dance is needed. All identities and orientations are welcome.
Who can participate in Kama Flight?
Kama Flight is designed for adult couples (21+). Whether you’re new to partner activities or have experience in dance or yoga, our programs are tailored to meet you where you are, offering modifications and challenges suitable for everyone.
Do I need any special equipment for Kama Flight?
For most Kama Flight sessions, no special equipment is needed beyond yoga mats, comfortable clothing, and an open space. For certain advanced movements or retreats, additional equipment may be provided or recommended.
Do I need a partner to practice Kama Flight?
Yes, Kama Flight is a partnered practice. You can pair with a friend, lover, or anyone you trust and feel safe with. We encourage all relationship types—not just romantic.
How does Kama Flight benefit my relationship?
Kama Flight fosters communication, trust, and mutual support through its unique blend of movements and exercises. Couples often find that practicing Kama Flight together strengthens their connection, improves their ability to work together, and brings a new level of fun and intimacy to their relationship.
Is Kama Flight safe?
Safety is our top priority. Kama Flight sessions are led by certified instructors who are trained to ensure movements are performed safely and comfortably. We start with foundational movements to build up your confidence and capabilities before moving on to more advanced techniques.
In addition, we have "No fly zones" on the chest, inner thighs, and buttocks, which ensure both partners are safe and consensual with their touch. And we stop to do "Check-ins" with partners at many points of the Class or Workshop.
How do I sign up for Kama Flight?
You can sign up through our website, KamaFlight.com. Visit our “Sessions” or “Retreats” page, choose the experience that suits you best, and follow the instructions for registration. If you have any questions, our support team is here to assist you.
How do I find a Kama Flight teacher or class near me?
We’re building a growing network of certified teachers. Please visit our Find a Class page or subscribe to our newsletter for updates on events, workshops, and trainings in your area.
Can Kama Flight help with stress?
Absolutely. Kama Flight combines physical activity with mindfulness practices, making it an excellent way to relieve stress. The focus on connection and support also provides a unique emotional benefit, further aiding in stress reduction.
What should I wear to a Kama Flight session?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows for easy movement. Fitted attire is recommended to prevent any fabric from catching or interfering with movements. Bare feet are preferred for a better grip during various poses.
Can I organize a private Kama Flight session for a special occasion?
Yes, we offer private sessions that can be customized for special occasions such as anniversaries, engagements, or just a unique date night. Contact us through our website to discuss arrangements.
Can I practice Kama Flight solo?
While Kama Flight is a partnered practice, solo prep like stretching, breathwork, and learning theory can be done alone. You can also explore role preparation for Base or Voyager on your own.
Are Kama Flight classes gender-specific or role-specific?
No. Roles are based on energy dynamics—Base (leading) and Voyager (receiving)—not gender. We invite all individuals to explore both roles over time.
SAFETY & BOUNDARIES
Is Kama Flight safe?
Yes. We emphasize high trust and responsible space-holding. Our curriculum includes physical safety checks, consent-based communication, and structured partner roles (Base and Voyager).
What are the clothing guidelines for practice?
Wear fitted yet flexible clothing like athletic wear. Avoid excess skin contact, which can make moves slippery or unsafe.
How long should a Kama Flight session last?
A typical session is 5–15 minutes. It’s recommended not to exceed 90 minutes in a day without breaks.
How often should we practice Kama Flight?
The frequency can vary based on your schedule and goals, but many couples find that practicing once a week allows them to continuously build on their skills and deepen their connection.
What if I have a physical limitation or injury?
We recommend consulting with a healthcare provider before beginning any new physical activity, including Kama Flight. Please also inform your instructor of any limitations or injuries before starting a session so we can accommodate and modify movements for you.
What do I need to practice Kama Flight at home?
You’ll need a massage table, comfortable clothing, a clean and safe space, and your practice partner. Our “Kama at Home” course will guide you step by step.
IN-PERSON EXPERIENCES
What courses are available?
We offer online guided sequences, in-person workshops, and upcoming retreats. Our courses span beginner to advanced levels, teaching postures, transitions, and flow techniques.
Explain the different formats: Workshop, Class, Jam
Workshop: A workshop is an immersive, often longer-format session designed to dive deeper into a specific theme, sequence, or skillset within Kama Flight. It may include theory, hands-on demos, extended practice time, and community sharing.
Key Features:
- 2-hour formats
- Focused on transformation and embodied learning
- May explore emotional themes, archetypes, or improvisation
- Includes time for Q&A, partner rotation, and integration
Class: A 1-hr class is a structured learning environment led by a certified Kama Flight teacher. It typically focuses on specific skills, sequences, or principles (like presence, permission, or polarity) and follows a set curriculum. Each class offers a fresh new flow.
Key Features:
- Guided from warm-up to cool-down
- Clear learning objectives (e.g., Circle Sequence, Scoop and Hook)
- Best for intermediate level or those refining their technique
- Ideal for: New learners who have attended a Workshop, couples or friends looking to deepen skills, and anyone wanting formal instruction.
Ideal for: Introductory level learners to the practice, ready to deepen their connection, grow confidence, or explore advanced relational dynamics.
Jam: A jam is an open, playful space for freestyle practice—think of it as Kama Flight’s version of a dance party meets lab. There's minimal structure, often no formal instruction, and lots of room for exploration.
Key Features:
- Community-driven, informal environment
- Space to improvise sequences, flow with different partners
- Facilitated check-in and safety agreements, but mostly peer-led
- Music, ambiance, and a connection-driven vibe
Ideal for: Intermediate to advanced Kama Flighters, certified students, or adventurous newcomers attending with an experienced partner.
Explain the different Modalities (Flight vs. Floor)
Kama Flight
Core Features:
- Practiced on a massage table
- One partner (Voyager) is elevated, the other (Base) is seated behind or standing beside
- Focus on scooping, hooking, and flowing movements using the support of the table
- Elevation allows for greater leverage, deeper backbends, and gravity-assisted stretches
Benefits:
- More dynamic movement range
- Easier to support and lift the Voyager
- Stronger emphasis on structure and polarity through elevation
- Ideal for formal training, classes, and flows involving postural transitions
Experience:
A lyrical, elevated, supported "dance" where form meets flight. This is Kama Flight’s signature format.
Kama Floor
Core Features:
- Practiced on the ground (yoga mats or soft flooring)
- Both Base and Voyager are grounded, which alters the type of movements and support available
- Emphasizes softer contact, floor-based sequences, and grounded energy exchange
- Uses more rolling, leaning, and touch-based flow without elevation
Benefits:
- More accessible for casual or spontaneous practice
- Less physically demanding for the Base
- Offers a gentler introduction to Kama principles in a grounded format
- Ideal for beginners, improvisational sessions, or settings without a table
Experience:
A grounded, intimate exploration of polarity and presence—slower, softer, and more accessible.
Should I try Kama Flight or Kama Floor
Choose Kama Floor if you want:
- Ease of access: No massage table needed—just a mat and a willing partner.
- A grounded, gentler experience: Especially good if you're newer to partner work, or want to explore slow, soft connection.
- Lower physical demand: Especially for Bases—it’s less about lifting and more about leaning, contact, and intention.
- Playful practice without pressure: Floor work tends to feel more casual, making it a great intro to Kama principles.
Best for: Beginners, relaxed home sessions, people without access to a table, or those who want to try Kama without the full setup.
Choose Kama Flight if you want:
- A more dynamic, structured practice: Kama Flight involves elevation, more formal sequences, and deeper energetic exchange.
- Access to full-body stretches and advanced postures: The table allows for gravity-assisted backbends, twists, and lifts.
- To train in flow, polarity, and improvisation: It offers more depth for those looking to grow their movement and relational intelligence.
Best for: Intermediate to advanced practitioners, couples or friends who want to train together, or anyone seeking deeper embodiment and flow.
Explain the roles of "Base" and "Voyager"
In Kama Flight, every practice session involves two complementary roles: the Base and the Voyager. These roles are not defined by gender, but by energetic polarity and functional dynamics. Each offers a unique pathway to relational growth, presence, and embodied connection.
The Base: Structure + Support
The Base is the partner who leads. They provide structure, stability, and direction throughout the session. This role mirrors the Yang principle—grounded, supportive, and confidently initiating movement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Guides the Voyager through postures and transitions
- Maintains physical and emotional safety
- Checks in regularly about touch, pace, and pressure
Listens deeply while leading with clarity - Engages their core and body awareness for safe lifting or guiding
What They Practice:
- Leadership without force
- Attuned presence and responsibility
- Communicating support through physicality and energy
A Base might say:
"I love leading her into softness and feeling her trust me—it makes me a more present and confident partner."
The Voyager: Receptivity + Expression
Role Overview: The Voyager is the partner who receives. They practice surrender, expression, and attuned responsiveness, aligning with the Yin principle—open, fluid, and intuitive.
Key Responsibilities:
- Relaxes into the Base’s support
- Shares feedback and evolving boundaries
- Responds to movements with presence and creativity
- Embodies self-awareness and trust
- Communicates with body and words
What They Practice:
- Letting go without losing agency
- Receiving touch and guidance with grace
- Expressing through micro-movements and feedback
A Voyager might say:
"Kama Flight helps me step out of my head and into my body—I get to soften, feel, and trust again."
Dynamic Balance: The Dance of Connection
While the Base leads and the Voyager receives, each role is an active practice of listening, responding, and co-creating. The Base learns to lead with care and adaptability; the Voyager learns to express and trust. Both roles are essential to cultivating relational intelligence and mutual flow.
